New Aberdeen Angus and Hereford bulls purchased by AI Services

Date Posted: 15th February 2021

At the recent Dungannon Farmers Mart, AI Services purchased new Aberdeen Angus and Hereford sires.

Drumhill Lord Highway V271, a twenty-one-month-old Aberdeen Angus sire, was purchased from Jonathan and Lisa Doyle, Cookstown for 4,800 gns.

Sired by stock bull Wedderlie Tarquin L383, Drumhill Lord Highway was bred from the Blelack Prince Consort A286 daughter Drumhill Lady Heather P366 – from one of the best cow families in the 40-cow herd.

His maternal granddam Blelack Lady Heather J169 bred the October 2016 intermediate and supreme overall Stirling champion Drumhill Lord Hatfield R532 ET sold for 11,000gns; as well the 4,600gns male champion at Dungannon (Feb 2018) Drumhill Lord Handsom S963.  Another son Drumhill Lord Harry R635 ET sold at Stirling (Feb 2017) for 8,500gns to the Shankill Herd owned by Pat and Finbarr Cahill from County Cavan, and went on to secure the breed’s supreme senior championship at Tullamore Show in 2018.

AI Services stud manager Robin Boyd said: ”This bull really caught my eye. He boasts the complete package – conformation and breed character, above average Breedplan figures, and a strong, proven cow family.” Drumhill Lord Highway V271 is in the breed’s top 5% for milk+19, top 10% for terminal sire index +43, and top 25% for self-replacing index +51 and eye muscle area +4.6.”

The Hereford bull Graceland 1 Silas from Robin and James Irvine, Whitecross, Co Armagh was purchased by AI Services for a record 5,500gns, to help meet the ever-increasing demand for Hereford semen.

This June 2019-born Blakesley 1 Nathan son sits in the top 20 percentile for weight and eye muscle figures and is out of a home-bred female, sired by Greenyards 1 Dougie.
